When Phil arrived he was tired and emotional. He was also late, couldn't find the studio and came with a guitar a couple of strings short of requisite. Never having met before, this was not a promising start.
Soon as he sat at the piano everything changed. The act of performance virtually turned him into a different person, controlled, relaxed, professional. And generally brilliant. The recording was done in a couple of takes with a few overdubs. I saw why he had gained major label status and been championed by the broadsheet press.
On a further session Seonaid added her magic. She was on time and her violin had all the strings. So sympathetic was her playing that you might have thought the two of them acquainted when actually they never met.
A rich and varied thing is studio life.
